Students and professors from the Miklós Ybl Faculty of Architecture and Civil Engineering at Obuda University took part in the World Expo in Osaka. On 28 April 2025, the UNI.CO.RE symposium featured two programmes at the Hungarian Pavilion.
The UNI.CO.RE symposium aimed to showcase Japanese-Hungarian university research and collaborations, reflecting on the Expo's message in relation to the themes of 'Co-creating Cultures for the Future', 'Historical Heritage' and 'Local Community Revitalisation'. Teachers and students from Obuda University and Osaka University took part in the symposium.
The Symposium was divided in the following three main sections:
In the "UNI" panel, the joint and wider international cooperation projects of the architecture faculties of the two universities and their results were discussed.
One of the components of the “CO” panel was the “I-CO”, namely the individual and the community, information technology and communication, innovation and cooperation, object and urban, part and whole. As well as the community planning of the city of the future, along innovative urbanistic principles and greenfield sustainable development experiments. The other was the "E-CO"(ecology, economics, ergonomics) the application of a sustainable, ecological approach, the introduction of the related technologies, structures and materials and their integration into the plans, and their implementation in a sober, economical form.
The "RE" panel analysed projects created in the areas of architectural paradigm-shifting experiments and research (RE_SEARCH) and (adaptive) revitalization of built heritage (RE_USE).
Symposium was moderated by Dr. Viktória Sugár, the Vice-Rector for Sustainability and Strategic Developments at Obuda University, whose main research interests are the rehabilitation of historic districts, sustainable architecture and climate-neutral urban development.
Senior lecturer was Prof. Michihiro Kita, Professor of Architectural and Urban Design of Osaka University, Board Member of Graduate School of Engineering, Senior Advisor to the President, and Board Member of Osaka University Press, joined by Prof. Dr. Györgyi Csontos DLA Ybl and Pro Architektura Award-winning architect, professor at the Ybl Miklós Faculty of Architecture of Obuda University.
