A delegation of four represented our Faculty at Ardhi University in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The East African university is widely recognised for its academic programmes, specialisations and its role in higher education in the region.
Participants in the international week, which took place from 26-30 May, were able to participate in valuable exchanges, presentations and round-table discussions. In addition to our faculty's external relations coordinator, Judit Kissné Fekete, several departments of the Institute of Architecture were represented at the event. Viktor Rozmann PhD from the Department of Built Environment, Marcell Szuhanyik from the Department of Architecture and Visual Studies and Anett Mizsei from the Department of Building Design were present, covering the main fields of architectural studies.
The main purpose of the trip, which was part of the existing agreement with Ardhi University, was to strengthen the relations and to explore possible links, which could later form the basis for joint projects, mobility, research and design tasks, workshops. During the presentations and discussions, a number of important common core values and similarities in teaching methods and organisation were identified, which brought the two faculties closer together despite their geographical distance.
Of particular importance was the discussion with Dr. Beatrice Tarimo and Dr. Atupelye Weston Komba from the management of the African Centre for Sustainable Cities Studies, which is conducting research projects in a wide range of areas, from heritage conservation to the architectural and infrastructural issues of future sustainable cities and their sociological dimensions.
In addition to the official programme, the delegation had the opportunity to learn about the rich cultural, built heritage and natural heritage of the region, as well as gain insights into Tanzania's past, traditions and contemporary life. We would like to thank the host institution for its openness and work, which made possible this meaningful week of experiences and professional achievements!
